The doctoral program, started in 1994, composed of three academic fields, a management oriented field, information system (IS), and an industry oriented field. Different paths allow students to use different approaches and methodologies to perform research with rigor and motivation on topics of relevance in the MIS broad area. Both management and IS fields focus on theory building and theory testing in the MIS field and contribute to the targeting of faculty positions in higher education levels in Taiwan. Particularly designed for senior executives from both public and private institutions, the industry path of the program mainly focuses on training industry leaders who will know how and why things happen the way they do through industry-university interaction and practice-oriented research.

Therefore, our Ph.D. program has been playing a pivotal role in developing superior information management educators and researchers for the world.
Fundamental knowledge is included in the course syllabus, as well as seminars and supervised independent research. A qualifying examination is expected for students to pass before the end of the second academic year. Then, the program is tailored to individual requirements, reflecting each student’s academic background research interests. Eligible courses that PhD students can take include, Research Methods, Business Intelligence, Mobile Network Technology and Applications, Innovation Management and Industrial Strategies, Modern Business Strategy, Financial Management, Customer Relationship Management, Management Accounting, Creative Marketing on the Internet, Human Resource Management, Intelligent Information Systems, Strategic Management, and many academic and industry-focused seminars.
Students must complete and submit a dissertation proposal to a committee by the end of the fourth year, covering the intended dissertation topic, its significance in the development of information management area, and the employed research methodology. The completion of the dissertation and the defense of the same fulfill the degree requirements.
